WD products are short lived
I purchased this item a 1 year & 2 months ago. Right after the 1 year warranty expired....so did the Hard drive. Customer service would have cost me $41.00 2 talk 2 a representative so I had 2 go 2 their website. I downloaded & tried all their programs...only 2 return with error messages. I will not be buying another Western Digital product again.

This does the job. The most attractive feature of the hard drive is the price.
It is surprisingly loud however, & does need an external power supply.
Overall, glad I got it. Right now I am using it 2 hold my iTunes library, & will soon buy a smaller / quieter / usb-powered one & phase this one into archiving my backups.

good 4 backup but not 4 normal use
The HD itself is nice but the case causes the drive 2 sleep & often does not wake back up. This causes endless hangups any time my system needs 2 access a file on there. I've already downloaded firmware updates & they helped a little, but not enough.
