Toshiba HDDR320E03X 320GB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive

Well afer my WD external NAS drive crashed, i wasnt going 2 touch that brand again. Toshiba offered a 3 year warrenty on this. That sounded 2 me like they were convinced it worked. And it was great...for a few months. Then i started randomly "dropping" I thought it was my computer at first because it was having problems, tried it in another & no luck. So i sent it in. After having it in repair 4 so long that I almost forgot i had it, they sent it back, without its usb cable. hmmm ok, not a huge deal, but curious, so I called them. They dont send the cable back & then sent an email saying the problem is the drive isnt strong enough 2 be detected by a computer, they were going 2 send me another cable so that i can plug it into two ports at once, making it detectable. Well, I do have two ports, but they are on opposite ends of my laptop. That will be awkward at best, impossible if the cable they send is as short as the one it comes with. Why would they make a drive without enough power 2 be detected? So thats two externals out the window? Does anyone make anything reliable anymore?

I just use it 4 Music, Photo, large graphical images, & large 3D files.

PROS:

+ 320 GB for[...] was a pretty good deal at the time.
+ As far as I can tell it's working great.
+ The size is acceptable, & the shell design is acceptable.
+ Weight comparable 2 iPod (30 GB)
+ Silent
+ rubber pad strips on bottoom


CONS:

- The BLACK gloss finish makes smudges & prints extremely visible.
- Since I'm pretty anal about it, there are no scratches, but can only
assume that the scratches are easy 2 make & would be more
pronounced as well
- Not sure if it's an OS thing, or not but I prefer that when the device
is ejected that the tiny blue light turn off as well
- Short Cord (The device will dangle from some Desktops due 2 USB port
placements & is stored under computer desk compartment).

I bought the Toshiba 320GB External Hard Drive at the end of the Summer 2 use with my Powerbook G4. And 2 this day, I have NOT been able 2 use it. I have contacted Toshiba's customer service 2 ask them what 2 do. First off, they take there sweet time 2 reply (a week more or less), when their website says that they'll respond in 24 hrs. Then when I did get a hold of them they sent me a USB powered adapter 4 free (thank you 4 that), Except, The Harddrive STILL is not registering on my laptop. Then when I tell them that.................Still waiting 4 a response. Whatever happened 2 taking care of the customer who dise-out over a $100 4 "Good, Reliable" products? Thanks Toshiba 4 taking the money & running.
My advice is, Tested it out right when you buy it 2 make sure it works with your computer. I waited too long 2 test it out on my Mac 2 return it 2 Best Buy.

The Toshiba External Harddrive is great. I just love it. There are no problems during the order, everything was on time & in the original packing. The Hard Drive looks very fancy & is very small - so you can take it with you wherever you go. There is a program you can install but it's not necessary, it works without it as well!

After doing some research online about which external hard drive 2 buy, I chose the Toshiba 320 GB because the price was right. I compared gigs 2 price with what would fit my Dell the best. It is small- 5 x 4 inches or so, which is nice, & comes with a 12 inch USB cable. The installation was easy & quick. I'm not a huge computer guru, so I wanted something that would be easy 2 manage. It works great, just what I wanted & 4 a price I couldn't find anywhere else.
